European Fan Palm

A native of the Mediterranean region, European fan palm is a variable species that normally forms multiple trunks and occasional just one. The trunks reach 20cm in diameter and are covered in brownish fibres from old leaf bases. The leaves 30cm across range in colour from blue-green to olive, the golden yellow fruit hangs in dense clusters just under the leaves.

The epithet is Latin for "humble" or "small".

Chamaerops Humilis occurs naturally on the Atlantic coast of Spain, France, Italy

Care: The European fan palm is not particular about soil requirements but good drainage is required it has no special nutrient needs or diseases problems, it is drought tolerant and its salt tolerance is very good.

This plant can grow 4-6metre with a spread of 5-6m; it will stand minimum temperature down to -10c

Single trunked plants are best used as a canopy focal point or in tubs.
