Silk Tree or Pink Siris
This beautiful deciduous tree would would be a stunning addition to small garden. The large leaves look fat too delicate for most climates, despite its reputation for being tender it has proved itself to be very tough. This tree comes into leaf rather late, usually around the end of spring, and it can start shedding its foliage as early as later summer. For this reason it is best grown on a south facing garden where its season can be extended  by several weeks. It produces copious amount of pale pink powder puff fragrant flowers in mid-summer which last for about six weeks. Long green seedpods are occasionally produced after an hot summer. Apart from requiring a sunny spot the soil needs to be fairly poor, well-drained and lime free. Very little maintenance is needed apart from a bit of pruning to keep the head a balanced shade. This should be done when the tree is dormant, either in the autumn or just before the new growth start in the spring
