Yucca

Yucca is an easy plant to grow for impressive foliage in the green house or conservatory. It has sword like evergreen leaves and can even produce large spikes of white flowers.

Yuccas are desert plants from central America and they like to be grown in full light and they need good drainage and should not be over watered at any time of year, they should be allowed to get fairly dry in winter.

Many yuccas are almost hardy and they are often seen growing out of doors in areas that do not have harsh winters.

As they are nearly hardy, they do not need to be grown in high temperatures and many even grow well in an unheated cold house which will protect plants from the worst winter weather. Mature plants those around four or five years old will produce flowers. These are impressive, they are white and bell-shaped, and are born densely on tall spikes. Cut these flower spikes off once they have faded to prevent the plant from putting all its energy into seed production. It is easier to propagate the plant from suckers, which appear near the base of the plant.
